Kargil records -20.2 degree, Pahalgam -8.7

People continued to shiver in Kashmir division including Ladakh with Kargil being the coldest place with a minimum temperature of - 20.2 degrees Celsius.


A Weather department official said the chill continued in the entire Ladakh region where the minimum temperature remained below freezing point. “The minimum temperature at Leh was recorded as - 18.4 degree Celsius this morning against yesterday's - 19.8 degree celsius. Kargil town was the coldest place by recording a minimum temperature of -20.2 degrees Celsius,” he said.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley with mercury settling at - 8.7 degrees celsius. “Gulmarg in North Kashmir was also reeling under cold with minimum temperature dipping to -8.7 degree Celsius. Srinagar city witnessed a slightly colder night at - 4.4 degree celsius, an increase of 0.2 d degree Celsius than yesterday. Qazigund froze at - 6.4 degree Celsius while night temperature in Kokernag town in south Kashmir was - 3.7 degree Celsius.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.7 degree Celsius.
Water bodies, including parts of the famous Dal Lake were frozen due to minus temperature
