Where lies the truth? LEADERSHIP

Sunday, January 16, 2011

"Intellectuals must speak truth. Thus said Abdul Gani Bhat at the seminar held on 2nd Jan 2011 to commemorate the martyrdom of Prof. Abdul Ahad Wani. Why not leaders is my question? I would like Mr Bhat to rewind his memory to 1991 when in quest of a common platform he along with Abbas Ansari, late Abdul Gani Lone held a meeting at a secret location with JKLF represented by Javed Ahmad Mir (Cheif Commander), Altaf Qadri, Dr.Meraj ud din, Prof Abdul Rehman Wani, Shabbir Siddiqui, Shafat Shangloo and my self. There was a thourough discussion on the subject. JKLF stuck to their manifesto of independent Kashmir because that was not only saleable to the world but could be the only solution acceptable to the minorities be it Hindus, half a percent Buddhists or other linguistic groups. The meeting however ended in a deadlock because Mr Bhat and party rejected the independence option. Post this meeting, what we witnessed was the elimination of JKLF cadres, both over and under ground.
Had some of the intellectuals cadres not abandoned, many more seminars would have been held to commemorate their sacrifices as very rightly pointed out by Yasin Malik that prof. Abdul Ahad Wani became the target because he was for independent Kashmir. Prof. Bhat has undertaken to speak the truth whatever the consequences. But we must know as to whether he really aims at that he just a chameleon assuming a new colour. If yes, then should some portion of blame, for the killing of Prof. Wani, be apportioned to him for being integral to killers then.
I stand aghast at the statement of Mr Malik that intellectuals should not be impartial. Intellect and impartiality are, in fact, two sides of the same coin. This statement of his is vicious, bad in taste and depicts the dictatorial mind set.
For the information of whomsoever it pertains that the leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making things happen. It is thus the leadership that has to introspect. As for people they, across the board, have given whatever was demanded of them by the leaders. Right from their lives, honor, and what not people have given for attaining freedom. People's balance sheet on this account is so hugely loaded that the day is not far that they will reach their goal. One has only got to have faith in one's mission. Undeterred they have shown their resolved to throw away the yolk of slavery. It has been observed that post 2010 phase of our struggle mysterious trend seems to have appeared to paint it as a failed one. This trend reached crescendo through speeches made by leadership at the seminar. And the propaganda let loose by the government and its agencies amounts to discouraging the masses. Even an ordinary mind can comprehend that 2008 Amaranth land row was a watershed in our struggle and those of 2009 and 2010 are only its manifestations. The international community is aware of our struggle. It is not a small gain that the common masses in India have realized the magnitude of the problem.
Even BJP in its latest conclave in Jammu have blamed Mr Nehru for the present status of the state and in other words admitting disputed status of Kashmir. Since current phase is in the hands of youth, mostly tech savvy, the leadership has to play a role in guiding them. Things have changed and even mainstream parties have come to realize that the state of Jammu & Kashmir needs a lasting solution.
The recent speech by the chief minister is the point of reference.
At this juncture if leaders still choose to remain compartmentalized it is better not to have them at all.
