Friday, March 18, 2011

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday denied having been offered any bribe during the parliamentary trust vote in July 2008.
Omar, then member of the Lok Sabha, had voted for the UPA government and delivered a highly emotional speech, which won him accolades from Congress leaders for having said: "Indian first."

  • With Wikileaks alleging that Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi worked on Omar during the trust vote, the chief minister clarified to reporters that he was not offered any bribe.
The trust vote had come at a time when the Amarnath agitation was at its peak in Jammu.
Omar tweeted that even in 1998-99 when his party National Conference had voted for the NDA government, there were no offers of money.
But defiance of whip by one of his party MPs Saif-ud-Din Soz had brought down the NDA government.
