Jammu: Ruling National Conference and Congress bagged five seats out of six in the Legislative Council while Peoples Democratic Party bagged one seat. The elections for the six seats of the Council were held on Tuesday.
At least thirteen candidates were in the fray, including three from National Conference, two from Congress, two from Peoples Democratic Party, three from BJP and two from JKNPP. However, one of the NPP candidates had already withdrawn.
Congress-NC coalition had put its entire weight to ensure victory on five seats (2 in valley, 3 in Jammu) where it has fielded its candidates, while PDP was a strong contender for one of the Valley seats.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) had fielded its candidates for three seats.
