Srinagar: If statistics reflect the growing traffic violations, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have seized more than 10,000 vehicles during the last three months while as a fine of 32 lakh and 5 thousand rupees was recovered from 9141 passenger and private vehicles and 1217 load carriers, during this period across Srinagar district.
Sources said that during last three months traffic police in Srinagar has intensified its action against the drivers and owners of light and heavy vehicles resorting to various traffic violations like wrong parking, over loading, driving without required documents, etc.
The traffic cops also seized nearly 11500 vehicles and realized an amount of 32 lakhs and 5 thousand rupees as fine from the 4700 passenger and 4441 private vehicles and 1217 load carriers, operating without important documents like pollution and fitness certificates, licenses. Other violations included over loading and wrong parking.
The drive against traffic violations was carried in Batamaloo, Jahangir Chowk, Hazori Bagh, Hari Sing High Street, Magarmal Bagh, Amira Kadal, Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Rainawari, Khanyar, Dargah, Soura, Hyderpora, Nowgam, Barzulla, Rambagh, Lal Mandi, Pantha Chowk, and other areas of Srinagar.
Superintendent of Police of Traffic, Maqsood-u-Zaman, said that people were facing immense problems with severe traffic jams at places like, Rambagh, Pantha Chowk, Qamarwari, Dalgate, Jahangir Chowk, Batamaloo crossing.
“To streamline the traffic and sustain it smoothly on all roads and streets, and make easy way for the pedestrians, traffic police has been always on roads in action to remove this encroachment, causing traffic jams in the city,” Zaman said.
