Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here. Omar expressed his gratitude to the PM for the highest Annual Plan of Rs. 6600 crores and Rs.1200 crores under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP) approved for Jammu and Kashmir by the Planning Commission of India for the year 2011-12.
In an hour-long meeting, the Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the successful conduct of Panchayat elections in the State. Omar told Dr. Manmohan Singh that the State Government has already initiated measures to empower the Panchayats in the State. The CM said that he would ensure devolution of powers to the Panchayats to make these grass root democratic institutions the planning centres in the State. He also said that transfer of functions, functionaries and funds (3Fs) to the Panchayats is being worked out on fast track. The Chief Minister besides discussing development and political scenario in the State also talked about the working of coalition Government. The Prime Minister assured full Central support to Omar Abdullah for the holistic development of Jammu and Kashmir.
