SRINAGAR, DEC 14: Authorities Monday booked senior Hurriyat Conference (G) leader and Muslim League Chairman Masarat Aalam Bhat under Public Safety Act (PSA) and sent to high security Kotbalwal jail, Jammu.Masarat, who spearheaded the “Quit JK Campaign”, was arrested by police from Tailbal area in the city outskirts on October 18.
He had remained underground for around 4-months.
“After being booked under PSA, he was sent to Kotbalwal Jail, Jammu,” official sources said.
Masarat was out on bail after 21 months of detention when on June 25, as general secretary of Hurriyat (G) and chairman of Muslim League, he launched the ‘Quit JK campaign’.
The slapping of fresh PSA against Masarat brings the total number of PSA orders passed by the Government against him to 18 in recent past.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani while condemning booking of Masarat under PSA alleged that J&K has been practically converted into a police state, where the rule of law has been suspended.
He also condemned slapping of PSA against Hurriyat (G) activist Abdul Hamid Magray of Kandi Kupwara.
“The government has decided to leave no space for peaceful political activities in Valley. Police has launched a crackdown on youth and arrested hundreds of them. Besides, the detained leaders are not being released,” Geelani said.
He also condemned the arrest of Raja Begum of Model Town Sopore, whose house was destroyed during an encounter between militants and troops.
He also called for release of all political detainees including Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Pir Saifullah, General Moosa, Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, Advocate G N Shaheen, Advocate Shafi Reshi, Firdous Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, Molvi Bashir, Rafiq Ganai, Mir Hafizullah, Yousuf Mujahid, Aashiq Sofi, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Bilal Siddiqui, Abdul Ahad Parra, Mohammad Yousuf Mir, Firoz Khan and others.
