‘BMW BOY JASIM KAWOOSA OF NOWHATTA IS A FREE MAN’
Jasim Hussain Kawoosa of Shahr-e-Khaas –the accused in bone chilling accident of crushing to death an engineering student on the City outskirts past month–has been granted bail by a local Court.
Police sources said Jasim was granted an “interim bail” on December 24 whereas afterwards on 29 of the month he was granted “absolute bail.” “For now Jasim Kawoosa is a free man and law will decide his fate,” said a police official. THE INCIDENT Kawoosa, allegedly a minor, as per witnesses, was recklessly driving a swanky sedan DL3CAE 0154 when it jumped over the road divider on the Airport Road–crossed the lane –rammed into Aatif Mudabir Dar’s car from the driver’s side. While the car was reduced to wreckage, badly wounded Aatif succumbed within hours.
The accused escaped unhurt and managed to flee from the spot though he later “surrendered” at Police Station Sadder. THE CASE Eyebrows are being raised over the police investigations into the case, which claimed life of the only son of a top cop.
The police on Tuesday said it had filed a case vide section 304(4) and 279 of the RPC while legal experts say the section 302, which amounts to murder shouldn’t have been ignored.
“The most vital aspect to this accident is that it could be a murder because such accidents where a car jumps over a road divider and hits another one driving down
in the opposite lane is sheerly exceptional,” said a public prosecutor pleading the case.
“There could be a conspiracy which cannot be ruled out…Police has hastily done the investigations,” he alleged even as police denies the charges.
Sources said the eye-witness account into the case wasn’t “properly recorded.” THE MISSING LINK At the time of the accident, a senior cop had said the police wasn’t sure whether Jasim was the “true accused or not.” “We are looking for the second accused who is still at large,” he had told Greater Kashmir.
But till now, the accomplice remains a mystery as police is yet to trace him or reveal his identify. ‘BMW BOY’ The residents of Parray Pora –the accident spot –have been accusing the police of shielding the “BMW boy”. Jasim, the locals alleged, was often seen roaming around outside coaching centres in his tinted black car till their “worst fears came true” on December 13. THE CAR Police says Jasim was driving the car worth around Rs four million adding that it was a gift from his father Mushtaq Ahmed of Nowhatta, a government employee by profession.
Despite repeated attempts, the Kawoosas couldn’t be contacted for comment. HOT TOPIC The way the accident occurred has triggered such a big debate in social circles that leave apart people, the officials often discuss it in public gatherings.
Just last week, on the commencement on the Road Safety Week, none other than the Inspector General of Police Shiv Morari Sahai termed it a case of reckless driving by the “pampered minor”. The IGP in his address said “It was a very fast and a costly car worth around Rs 40 lakhs.” “Father had gifted the car to his minor son,” Sahia said adding “being rich was not a sin but one also needs to respect and adhere to law of the land.” The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rouf Ul Hassan said: “Whatever I heard about the incident conveys that he (accused) is the spoilt son of his father.” BOTTOMLINE While the debate goes on, the fact remains that Ghulam Ahmad Dar and family have lost their only son, who had been a topper all his life and aspired to qualify prestigious GATE. But much before that the speeding tinted car came his way.
