People had to face inconvenience as traffic policemen failed to regulate traffic on the Residency Road in view of rush to the Sunday market.
It took the commuters traveling in buses and other vehicles nearly an hour to reach Lal Chowk from Radio Kashmir due to haphazard parking by the Sunday Market shoppers.
Though the Traffic Department had deployed three cranes to clear the road of haphazardly parked vehicles, the traffic cops ended up acting as mute spectators
to the traffic jams.
“In the first place, the traffic cops should not have allowed parking of the vehicles on the roadside. There is no fun to challan the traffic offenders as it added to the traffic jams. The traffic cops allow the people to violate traffic rules only to pave way for imposing fine on them and in most of the cases fill their pockets,” alleged Ghulam Muhammad, a bus passenger.
Another passenger Muhammad Saleem said if the traffic department can’t regulate traffic on half a kilometer stretch, the fate of traffic management in the Valley can be imagined.
“Either the traffic through Sunday market should be prohibited or the buses should be allowed to move through MA Road. More than imposing challans and organizing so-called Traffic weeks, it is high time for senior traffic officials to apply their mind to check the menace,” he said.
Repeated attempts to contact the SP Traffic Srinagar could not be mature.
