The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.
Geelani had gone to New Delhi for treatment in January this year and was expected to arrive earlier this month. However, Delhi police on February 20 had barred the veteran leader from leaving the capital. Kashmir observed a complete shutdown on Hurriyat (G)’s call on February 22 to protest against restrictions on Geelani’s movement.
Later the Delhi police stated that Geelani would be allowed to return after recording his statement in a Hawala case.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said Geelani has not yet recorded his statement. “Delhi police have asked Geelani Sahib to report at Lodhi Road Police Station. However he has refused and asked the Delhi Police to record his statement at his house in Malviya Nagar. He has decided to return to Valley tomorrow,” Akbar told IK.
