The Hurriyat Conference (M) has strongly refuted the reports based on the disclosures of Wikileaks that one of its leaders supported the hanging of Parliament attack convict, Muhammad Afzal Guru.
The conglomerate has termed the disclosures as a conspiracy to malign it and maintained that it has been using every forum to save Afzal Guru from being hanged.
During the conglomerate’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the members resented and strongly refuted the report. “The report is unrealistic and a conspiracy to malign the conglomerate and the ongoing movement. During the talks with New Delhi and at international fora, the Hurriyat (M) has maintained that the detention of Kashmiri detainees including Muhammad Afzal Guru is illegal and grave human rights violation,” leaders of the Executive Council said in the meeting.
“We want to maintain that all the Kashmiris lodged in Indian jails are assets of the ongoing movement for right to self-determination and have rendered unflinching sacrifices for the cause. The conglomerate has been utilizing every platform to put an end to atrocities on Kashmiris. The amalgam is not even ready to hear that a Kashmiri will be sent to the gallows, not to speak of supporting such verdict,” they said.
The leaders said such “baseless” revelations have considerably eroded credibility of the Wikileaks. “Now it is clear that it is being misused for satiating petty interests,” they said.
Earlier, Mirwaiz briefed the leaders about his recent tour of US, London and Geneva where he participated in a series of seminars and conferences. Mirwaiz told the leaders that the western countries have realized that the movement of Kashmiris was indigenous and for the inalienable right to self-determination.
“Among other disputes, Kashmir has reached the agenda of the international community which gradually has realized that its resolution is imperative for peace in south Asia. The international community also understood that no power can suppress the people’s revolution. The condemnations at the international level to the human rights violations in the Valley is gaining momentum and its echoes are heard in the power corridors of New Delhi.
The meeting, among others, was attended by senior Hurriyat leaders Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Ghani Lone, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Mousvi, Maulana Masroor Abass Ansari, Muhammad Abdullah Tari, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Musadaq Adil.
