The Deputy Speaker, Sartaj Madni on Thursday resigned from his post after the Speaker’s “advice”, asking him to step down for “joining” protests along with his party (PDP) MLAs.
The Deputy Speaker, in his resignation submitted to the Speaker, said, “You have publicly and brazenly advised me to quit my post, I therefore tender my resignation from the post of the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly with utmost humanity and my personal regard for all the honourable members of the House.”
He also described the functioning of Speaker as “partisan and often unparliamentary conduct” saying, “I have never seen any action by any presiding officer that compromised the dignity and decorum of an august forum like ours.”
